RUMOR: Amazon lists March 2013 release
Amazon UK is listing Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII for release on March 29, 2013.
The online retailer updated its pre-order page with the Friday release date earlier this week, Examiner reports.

It may well just be a placeholder though, as Famitsu reported last month that the PS3 and Xbox 360 game is just 30 per cent complete.

Revealed at a Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event in September and set for release some time next year, the game is being billed as the last entry in the "Lightning saga". It'll feature the FFXIII heroine in a tense finale as a doomsday clock counts down 13 days until the end of the world.
march madness!
UPDATE: Square Enix has told us that the release date listed by Amazon is factually incorrect, while reiterating that the game is set for release in 2013.

Toriyama: Lightning Returns will be the most "complete and polished game in the Final Fantasy series"

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be the most “complete and polished game in the Final Fantasy series” according to Motomu Toriyama.

Citing a recent interview with VG247, the director spoke about all things Final Fantasy 25th anniversary and included a brief bit on his latest project, Lightning Returns.

While not due to launch until next year, Toriyama reminds us that his latest title is “the newest installment in the Lightning saga that began with Final Fantasy XIII and also brings the saga to a conclusion. In the game Lightning will enter the final battle against a fate brought about by a new deity.”

Changes to the game’s systems “will feature direct action battles perfectly suited to Lightning, as well as character customization, and will really take care to thoroughly embody the character of Lightning herself. The game concept will be very much “world driven” this time round,” says Toriyama.

“We are going to build a finely detailed world which changes in real time along with the passing of day and night over 24 hours.” Toriyama also hints at a feature that will connect the world of Lightning Returns to our own in that we’ll “see setups with the world of Final Fantasy entering into our everyday lives.”

Given that the game will be the third entry using the Crystal Tools engine on current generation hardware, Toriyama promises that it will be “the most complete and polished game in the Final Fantasy series.”

Final Fantasy series ba talaga, o Final Fantasy XIII series? Kasi masyadong malaking claim ito pag totoo yang statement niya na yan. For me, FF6-10 and mga very, if not most, complete FF experience.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Has A World That Changes In Real Time

Speaking with 4gamer, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama talked a big more about how the "world driven" game works. The Final Fantasy XIII team reiterated that FFXIII was "story driven" and FFXIII-2 was "player driven".

Lightning has 13 days to save the world in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. While Lightning tries to change the future, the world moves at its own pace with a 24 hour clock and day/night cycle. Toriyama said "time management" was one of the key systems in Lightning Returns.

Players might not even make it to day 13 because Lightning’s actions can slow down the world’s demise or speed it up. Battle Director Yuji Abe says in-game characters act on their own schedule and there are different events depending on the game time (morning, afternoon, evening, or night), which changes in real time. Square Enix is still adjusting the time of one Final Fantasy XIII day, but Abe says he thinks it will be between 1-2 hours.

Abe hopes fans will discover new events when they replay Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and players will talk about what they saw during a run through the game. Toriyama said the foundation of Lightning Returns is the world driven concept and like a Daruma otoshi toy (a game where you smack the base of the Daruma with a wooden mallet) each part of Lightning Returns is a different block on the Daruma. Toriyama said he will explain his philosophy for the game design during Game Developer’s Conference which sounds like the next time we’ll hear about major developments in Lightning Returns.

Well at least "Square" didn't plaster Cloud all over the PS1-PS2 Final Fantasy series. Si Toromiya nga naman oh...too trying hard to his "beloved" Final Fantasy series
