White Knight Chronicles 2 has been confirmed to be in the work for the Playstation 3 in this week's famitsu.

"in WKC I, your avatar only tagged along, but in WKC II, the avatar is planned to be treated differently"

I read that it's just a new update for WKC called 2nd Wave.
WKC I - 2nd Wave (2nd major update)
-You can create your own world with Georama system (think back to Dark Chronicle I believe) and populate it with NPCs, create farms and gather crops and what not
-You can give NPCs various occupations
-You can invite other players as well.
-Guild rank limit raised to rank 15
-Start of pay-to-buy system, but the Georama system will have a tremendous amount of playability even w/o spending a single dime
-Pay-to-buy equipment is more for people who want a unique aesthetic look. Pay/free equipment players will not have any benefits/disadvantages
-Remaking avatar will cost money, but you can completely recustomize your avatar
July 28, 2009 - While we're still waiting for the original, word is already spreading in Japan about a sequel to White Knight Chronicles. Famitsu got the scoop on the followup in its latest issue.
Unfortunately, the magazine didn't actually say anything about the sequel, except that it's in production. It also provided hints that main character Leonard will return.
The Famitsu story is actually focused on the original's upcoming 2nd Wave update. This major update adds a number of new features to the game, including the ability to create your own world in the game's Georama social network. You can have NPC characters reside here, and also invite other players over.
The update will also bring new paid content to the game. Sony will begin selling paid avatar parts. These are just for changing physical appearance and won't give advantages during online play.
These updates will presumably be included from the start with our version of White Knight Chronicles.

Though White Knight Chronicles 2 was casually mentioned in an interview earlier this year, the game has officially been announced via the latest issue of Famitsu magazine. Called White Knight Chronicles: The Awaken of the Light & Darkness, details are still slim on the title. Expect to see more on it, including a trailer, at TGS later this week - though Famitsu confirms the title won't be playable at all.
