Rumor: Nintendo revealing new hardware at E3

Word on the interwebs suggests that the Big N is gearing up for some sort of hardware reveal at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

"We've heard rumors that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3," IGN editor Jose Otero said on the latest episode of Nintendo Voice Chat.

"They're absolutely going to show new hardware this year," the outlet's co-founder, Peer Schneider added. "No doubt in my mind that something... 'Cause I've heard from multiple people now. I've heard from someone who used to be at Nintendo, I've heard it from somebody on the third-party front."

Nintendo has filed a patent for a portable device with interchangeable button configurations.

The patent (via NeoGAF) was filed in October of last year. It describes a game system similar in appearance to the 3DS, though it doesn't appear as a clamshell design in the illustrations. The figures show four slots, each of which supports the ability to slide buttons or other control configurations inside. Examples shown include swapping a directional pad for an analog stick, or switching a four-button face for a three-button face.

Nintendo will launch a new console, not the Wii U or 3DS, in "emerging markets" as early as next year, president Satoru Iwata has revealed. Speaking with Reuters, Iwata said Nintendo will develop not only a new console, but new games as well, aimed at lower-income consumers and those with less gaming experience than people from developed countries.

"It would be difficult to enter those markets if we didn't create something new... For the mass market you need to provide something that most of the middle class can afford," Iwata said.

He wouldn't discuss specifics about Nintendo's new hardware or provide a list of countries where it will be sold, saying only that Nintendo plans to tap into "emerging markets" where video games are not yet commonplace.

maybe thats another reason. mga taga-mainland china pa naman magagaling kumopya, gumaya, MANG-ANGKIN, mandaya, mamirata, magsinungaling....etc...

pero anyways, ang nakikita ko talagang reason dyan ay ang pagpasok ni microsoft sa china dahil na lift-off na ang ban sa mga game consoles. 1 billion+ population ng china at malaking market yun para kay nintendo. gagawa sila ng affordable version ng wiiU or 3ds para lang sa mga "low-income gamers" ng china at india since this places prefer cheap knock-offs rather than expensive originals.
