Why create an app if a mobile version of the site can be developed instead? Take a look at NeoGAF and how awesome the mobile version of their site is. You can even switch between the mobile and desktop versions instantly.

If you think about it, a few peeps on the previous page of this thread were even mocking the idea simply because of the reason "other sites" were also using it when it was first proposed.

But things have always and will always change.
