halos parehas tayo ng skillset marami talaga opening para sa mga senior pero onti lang nakukuha. Tatanda rin yang mga senior na yan  . Pag may background sa linux plus yun. :agree:

ano ba mas-in TEXT SPEAK VIOLATION? programming? o networking? papapiliin kami kasi ngaung incoming 3rd year.
pero mas gusto ko talaga mag vb.net at asp.net with mssql kesa sa dns, dhcp at yung pang mga networking.

pero mahal nga un certification ng cisco.

Actually it's all really up to you. Personally, I think both careers (networking at programming) are big earners even here in the Philippines. So it's your choice kung saan mo mas gusto kasi yan ang gagawin mo day in day out. :agree:

I took up CCNA 1-4 in college pero I didn't take the exam kasi dun palang alam ko na mas gusto ko ang programming. Kaya I took MCPD-EA C# certification instead. I had no formal training sa C# pero since interested talaga ko, natyaga ko yung self paced books para matapos yung exams. I don't think I could have done that with Cisco Certification. :bigmouth:

kailangan talaga sa cisco certs ng hands on experience. ang alam ko sa dlsu (at mapua it din yata) meron tie up with cisco para sa mga equipments. ako expired na yung MCAD certification ko. kailangan ng kumuha uli for .net 3.5. ang mahirap lang dun sa may certification pero wala pang work experience puro theoretical yung basis ng knowledge. meron ako mga na interview na less than a year yung experience pero MS certified. puro by the book yung alam pero yung actual usage di nila ma explain kung paano or bakit ganun yung nakalagay sa book

ako nag start ako as sys admin. inabutan ko pa sa company namin na nt 4 yung mga domain controllers. then naging win2k tapos win2k3. ngayon win2k8 na yung ginagamit for moss. tapos nag shift yung group namin to programming/app design. laking tulong din yung may background ka about sa network stuff, kahit basics lang lalo na kung web developer

In fact yes  yan din yung gagawin nyo if makakuha kayo ng job sa solutions.

However, based on experience you shouldn't just focus on certification, programing language specific kasi yan e. Mas malayo mararating mo sa industry kung iaaply mo yung Software Engineering skills mo. Meaning, marunong ka pag problem solving using UMLs. And from UMLs kaya mo makagawa ng code.

Yung uml ba like data-flow diagram (DFD) and entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs)?

^^ Yup yun nga yun :agree: and many more like use case, sequence diagram etc...

SIla kasi yung foundation mo in building a good solution. Without those, its like building a house without a blueprint.

Kapag entry level programmer ka palang, hindi mo pa masyado maapreciate sya kasi most of the time, you'll be coding other people's design. Pero kapag nabigyan ka ng chance mag go through an end-to-end software lifecycle, those would be skills you'll need the most.
