New World of Final Fantasy Screenshots and Gameplay Details

Prepare for cuteness overload! Square Enix has released some unbelievably adorable screenshots of it’s upcoming game World of Final Fantasy.

First up meet Lann (voiced by Soma Saito), he’s the twin brother of Reynn. He’s full of energy but can sometimes be a bit of a dunce. He can be very cool when it matters though.
Image

Next we have Reynn (voiced by Sora Amamiya), twin sister to Lann. She tends to be the opposite, calm and cautious.
Image

Both Lann and Reynn have lost their memories and, as seen in the screenshots above, they both have a mysterious power in one of their arms. When that power is awakened a piece of armor appears on their arms.

Everybody needs a travel companion and luckily for Lann and Reynn they will be accompanied by Tama (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu). Tama acts as a navigator but also teaches the twins various things.
Image

World of Final Fantasy will also have plenty of appearances by characters from previous Final Fantasy games:

Warrior of Light from Final Fantasy (voiced by Toshihiko Seki)
Cloud from Final Fantasy VII (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai)
Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto)
Yuna from Final Fantasy X (voiced by Mayuko Aoki)
Princess Sarah from Final Fantasy (voiced by Yoko Asagami)
Sherlotta from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (voiced by Marina Inoue)
Faris Scherwiz from Final Fantasy V (voiced by Rie Tanaka).

Along with plenty of new screenshots Square Enix has also given us some more details about the gameplay:

Players will be able to befriend Mirages during their travels. You’ll even be able to ride the larger Mirages and move around the world quicker then walking on foot. You can discover treasures and get past obstacles blocking the way by using the skills of different Mirages.
Image

The twins have the ability to befriend Mirages because of the power dwelling in each of their arms. In order to befriend Mirages you first need to encounter them in battle. By weakening a Mirage in battle, it’s possible to ‘Gemify’ it. When you Gemify a mirage they will be befriended and you can have them fight alongside you in battle.

During battle it’s also possible to stack Mirages on top of each other, doing so will combine their individual abilities, powering them up and can also unlock new abilities.

You need to pay attention to size when stacking the protagonists and Mirages. You’ll have to stack Large, Medium, and Small sizes in the correct order.
Image

You can also fight unstacked, this enables each Mirage to act independently, increasing their number of actions and making Action Points easier to accumulate.

You might be wondering why you’d want to accumulate Action Points, well wonder no longer!

You can use Action Points to summon Mega Mirages. When you summon a Mega Mirage, the other party members temporarily withdraw, and the Mega Mirage will remain in battle until all Action Points are used up.
Image

You’ll want to use your Mirages regularly in battle as this can lead to them transforming and evolving.

So by fighting alongside Ifchi…

He’ll evolve into Ifree…

And after enough battles he’ll evolve into Ifrit!

Square Enix has also released some adorable concept art to introduce some of the Mirages that will be available. Check them out below:

World of Final Fantasy Gets Extended Look [PS4 Gameplay]

World of Final Fantasy

PlayStation Access has an extended look at a demo for World of Final Fantasy, the upcoming RPG from Square Enix. The ten-minute video is a narrated look at the game's systems, from party construction and leveling to combat and capturing new allies.

Combat takes place in turn-based battles, with protagonists Reynn and Lann as the leads in the fight. Captured enemies can join the team as part of a stack, where different sized creatures, categorized by large, medium, and small, can stand on one another to grant stat bonuses and unique abilities. Enemies will also be able to utilize stacks. Toppling these stacks will be key to defeating certain enemies. A fast-forward option will be available in battle, as well as the ability to switch between a classic menu layout and the game's default one.

Capturing Mirages, as they are known in-game, requires meeting them in battle and fulfilling certain stipulations before attempting to "Imprism" the Mirage. Mirages can be improved through the use of the Mirage board, which is similar to the Sphere Grid or Crystarium.

The World of Final Fantasy will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game releases in North America on October 25, 2016, with a European release on October 28, 2016.
