I'm talking about this, http://pinoyps.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=14248 and this, http://pinoyps.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=38738

First...

I think we need to change the rule so that console modding is no longer allowed. I know in the past this was an avenue to get past region locking, and console modding isn't illegal but times have changed. For a lot of people, JailBreaking = Piracy. Besides, we don't allow JailBreak discussions already, may as well update the rules.
Why are modchip discussions allowed?
To be able to use backups, you need modchips. Since backups are perfectly legal, then modchip discussion is allowed. But only for the purpose of making backups.

Are custom firmwares allowed
Custom Firmwares are developed by third party developers. As long as the developer is ditributing it freely or you are paying for their software, then it is okay.
I think we need to be more vigilant and enforce this as marami pa ring nagmumura.
- Profane and/or derogatory language is not allowed and any postings that contain as such will be deleted without warning
May iba pa akong naisip but let's start with this first. Kung meron kayong gustong ipropose for revision, feel free to post.

Let's start here. Edit na lang natin.

RULES: Discussions on Piracy are NOT ALLOWED

PinoyPS.com strongly encourages everyone to support the game developers and game companies buy buying original and legit copies of games. The following rules are stricly enforced throughout the board:

 No discussions regarding the use, acquisition or distribution of illegal copies of software.
 No discussions encouraging or promoting the use, acquisition or distribution of illegal copies of software.
 No discussions on how to make or distribute illegal copies of software.
 No discussions on where to get illegal copies of software. This includes, but are not limited to, stores in Malls or Flea Markets (Tiangge), private individuals, websites, and P2P software.
 No discussions regarding problems encountered when using illegal copies of software.
 Use of euphimisms are not allowed. Terms like "Pinoy-friendly", "economical version", "Jack Sparrow", etc mean the same thing. Expecting other people not to understand the connection of these terms is only an insult to other people's intelligence.

FAQs

Can we discuss about back-ups?
Yes. As long as you own the original copy of a game, then you are legally entitled to make back-ups to protect that right. Discussions on making back-ups are allowed as long as it does not venture into piracy. To make it clear, you cannot distribute these backups and only you can use them.

Can we discuss about emulators?
Emulators for systems that has been abandonned by its previous owner are allowed. However, for those software and systems that are still owned by existing companies are considered to be piracy.

I know some members who own illegal copies of games, should they be banned?
We do not enforce the use of illegal software. We just refuse to let PinoyPSX.com be an avenue for such illegal activities. What you do with your own money in your own time in your own place is none of our business. What happens within PinoyPSX.com is our business, therefore these rules are enforced.

As regards to use profane languages, it should include name-calling that is tantamount to insults. Violation of this rule should warrant a warning that the next violation will be subject to suspension.

I agree to this! Minsan nga maski yung words like "kupal" shouldn't be accepted even if it does not pertain to a specific member. Parang ang pangel lang kasi na makita na may mga ganun na words na nagcicirculate sa forums natin lalo na from long time members.

Yup. Yung iba sinasabi nila expression lang nila yun, pero mas maganda ng absolutely prohibited yun, instead na magtake ng risk na mag-cause ng problema o gulo.

We're going to need to draft the rule against name calling well. Meron kasi iyung mga talagang in jest kasi magkaibigan talaga sila.

In any case, can we go ahead with amending the rules on console modding?

Yes. There's no need to mod a console now since it's region-free.

We can retain the ones for PS2 but there's almost no activity in that area anymore.

Something that we can use as reference:

http://www.siliconera.com/open-thread/

The Open Thread has three simple rules:

1. Keep it safe. Don’t link to explicitly NSFW material. Apply common sense.

2. Be polite. This is a cool community. We don’t like rude people.

3. Try not to spam multiple replies if you can reply to several people at once. Use the “@” feature.

Posting rules for Siliconera as a whole: (READ CAREFULLY!)

1. Read before you write: If you’re glossing over an article in a hurry, that’s fine. If you intend to enter the discussion in the comments, make sure to read the full post properly.

2. Think before you write: What you say and post on the site has consequences. Comments that generate discussion are encouraged. However, rudeness or flaming are in no way constructive, and should be avoided. Typing a post with insults like “Crapcom” will likely get you banned if you do it more than once.

3. No console requests: We’re sorry that "Super Awesome Game X" isn’t available for a your favourite console, but spamming the comments with "why isn’t this for NeoGeo Pocket" isn’t going to make it happen. DO NOT beg for ports or complain when games are announced for other systems.

4. Keep an open mind: Siliconera covers a very wide variety of games from all over the world for a wide range of platforms. Don’t like a particular kind of game or a particular genre or a certain game system? That’s great, but remember, the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily care to know about it. Let people enjoy the things they enjoy, and don’t ruin their fun with negativity.

5. Express yourself clearly, but not repeatedly: Don’t like a particular game or piece of news and really want to voice your thoughts? OK, fine. But if you intend to express your disdain, make sure to provide well-articulated reasoning with proper grammar, or people will laugh at you. Snarky one-liners will not be tolerated. Additionally, once you’ve had your say, let go. You don’t need to post the same comments about a game in every new article unless there’s a very good reason to do so.

6. Whining about western games or developers: See above. If your reason for disliking a game is simply that you don’t like western games or western developers working on franchises you love, then this isn’t the community for you. Please take your opinions elsewhere if you don’t have something more concrete and articulate to back them up with. Siliconera has roots in the Japanese industry, but we love and cover games from all over the world. We do not cater to narrow-minded gamers.
