Do you also play with non-PlayStation devices? Do you enjoy playing as a plumber saving a princess? Or some bald marines? Or maybe you want to play using the touchscreen?

Splinter Cell: Blacklist Wii U pre-order boxes surface in Ireland (RUMOR)
Ubisoft Toronto's first Splinter Cell coming to Wii U?
Wii U pre-order boxes for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Ubisoft Toronto’s upcoming sequel for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, have surfaced at a GameStop in Dublin, Ireland.

A NeoGAF member visiting the shop captured the photograph below.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Splinter Cell: Blacklist for Wii U. Back in June, it was listed at Best Buy for the high-def Nintendo platform. With Ubisoft’s great amount of support for the system, it would be surprising if the game was not planned for Wii U.

Miyamoto: ‘Nintendo thinking about Wii U/3DS connectivity’

Nintendo is interested in the idea of connection features between Wii U and 3DS, according to Shigeru Miyamoto. But don’t expect it to happen any time soon, if at all.

Speaking with IGN, Miyamoto mulled over the connection between both devices, “Of course we are thinking of the possibility of connecting Wii U and Nintendo 3DS once again. [But] we have challenged connectivity on many occasions, and one of the great lessons we have learned is the simple fact that those who own both are much fewer than those who don’t own both.”

He added, “so what we decided early on when considering the Wii U design was that we had to make it so that every single purchaser of the Wii U is going to have the same play conditions, the same equipment.”

Miyamoto also stressed that aside from people having to own both a Wii U and 3DS in the first place, the number of screens on hand is an issue. He explained that connecting the original Wii and the original DS was a problem due to the DS having two screens, and the Wii only using your television.

However, both the Wii U and 3DS use two screens, which makes the format more compatible, Miyamoto suggested, “If we are going to do that with Wii U and 3DS, there would be three screens to consider.”

“The reason why we were not so eager to do a similar thing between Wii and DS if that it would have become very complicated using two screens on the DS and one screen on the Wii. But of course we are trying to think about a way to expand the experience of 3DS and Wii U when they are connected with each other, one way or the other.”

GTA V on Wii U 'up for consideration'
Rockstar not ruling out a release on platforms other than PS3 and 360
Image

While no other platforms were mentioned in the official announcement, the publisher hasn't ruled out the game releasing on hardware other than Microsoft's and Sony's.

Asked why the game hasn't been confirmed for PC and Wii U, Rockstar vice president Dan Houser told IGN: "Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you.

"The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market.

"If that's on Apple we put something on Apple," Houser added. "Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff."

^ Tingin ko the Ps3 &360 ver could easily be ported sa WiiU... But doing it in a way that would take advantage of the WiiU gamepad will be something else. Much like the Batman AC ver. but only 10 times harder for GTAV bec of the open world mechanics :bigmouth:

So you think you've picked out something original for the children in your life for this holiday season? Put it back. They don't want that crap. Nielsen's data shows that they want Apple products or a Wii U.

Tablets are hot with kids, and while they wouldn't hate an Android one, what they really want is an iPad. Nielsen's data shows that Apple's tablet is the #1 device kids age 6-12 want, with 48 percent of those polled asking for it. For ages 13 and up, the iPad is also #1. You could get them the iPad mini, but that's farther down on the list. They'd rather have an iPod Touch.

#2 on the list, ranking above Xbox 360, PS3, other tablets, the 3DS, Vita or anything else is Nintendo's Wii U, with 39 percent of respondents hoping for the hot new console.

You want to look like a superstar this Christmas? Get a Wii U. That's my plan.

Wii U 'Has A Horrible, Slow CPU' Says Metro Last Light Dev
Wii U's tech specs aren't as impressive as initially thought and 4A Games won't be bringing Metro: Last Light to Nintendo's new console.

Nintendo’s Wii U is out in the US and with reports coming in that it is struggling in a number of areas, many are claiming its third party games aren’t quite up to the visual standard of their Xbox 360 and PS3 cousins.

That the Wii U struggles to render games (that run perfectly on the Xbox 360 and the PS3) is a worrying trend for Nintendo. In fact, some games currently scheduled for release on the 360, PS3 and PC won’t be heading to the Wii U at all because of the differences in processing power.

One of these titles will be 4 A Games’ Metro: Last Light. Chief technical officer, Oles Shishkovtsov, explains why Metro’s sequel won’t be appearing.

“[The] Wii U has a horrible, slow CPU,” said Shishkovtsov to NowGamer.

Even his colleage, Huw Beynon, confirmed there would not be a Wii U version of Metro: Last Light, and couldn't justify the effort required to bring a comparable version to the Wii U.

“We had an early look at it, we thought we could probably do it, but in terms of the impact we would make on the overall quality of the game – potentially to its detriment – we just figured it wasn’t worth pursuing at this time. It’s something we might return to. I really couldn’t make any promises, though.”

Despite Nintendo’s console offering Metro: Last Light new experiences to its players with it dual screens, when asked Benyon was adamant that the Wii U would ever seen Metro: Last Light when asked directly.

“We had an initial look at the Wii U, but given the size of the team and compared to where we were last time, just developing for the Playstation 3 is a significant addition.”

Wii U: Nintendo 'Shouldn't Compete With Sony & Microsoft' - Analyst
Image

Nintendo should focus on its own identity for the Wii U if it's to succeed, says Jesse Divnich.

EEDAR's Jesse Divnich has already spoken to us about Nintendo's Wii U launch, citing it a success despite the initial issues; but he's still well aware that Nintendo has the hardest part of the job left.

"It really comes down to messaging," Divnich tells us, "and I feel like the Wii U is in an awkward place with its identity.

"On one side of the coin, Nintendo has done an excellent job at messaging to the casual and mainstream audience. They've done enough to convince the mainstream that the Wii U is a worthy upgrade to the Wii."

It's the core market that Nintendo is struggling to appeal to, claims Divnich, "On the other side, Nintendo and the third-parties are still trying to pitch the Wii U as delivering a core experience.

"Don't get me wrong, all the core launch titles play beautifully; however, the problem is that gamers don't want a core experience on the Wii U. There is already two systems that satisfy the core experience."

Divnich cites Sega's MadWorld as an example of just how ignored a core game, however good, can be on a Nintendo console suggesting that just because most people own a Wii "that doesn’t necessarily mean they want a core experience."

Nintendo needs to be wary of trying to target too many types of gamers to the Wii U, with Divnich claiming that Nintendo could end up in trouble if it tries to provide an experience akin to the PS3 or the Xbox 360.

"Nintendo has always operated at their own pace. It has worked well for them and I don't think the Wii U is a scenario where Nintendo was rushing to market. There will be issues, however, if Nintendo attempts to compete with Sony and Microsoft at their own game (again, delivering core experiences, superior online services, etc.)."

Despite the innovation in Miiverse, Nintendo has already been chastised by many gamers for its single account per Wii U and restrictions on Nintendo Network, proving Divnich's thoughts on the matter.

Wii U tops kids’ gaming wish list, but Apple supreme – Nielsen
Asked what electronic devices they would like to own over the next six months, Nielsen‘s survey of aged six to 12 showed a definite tendency towards Apple products, with 48% coveting the full-sized iPad.

The Wii U was a very strong second place at 39%, but beyond that, Apple took out another three places with the iPod Touch, iPad Mini and iPhone.

A generic “computer” went neck and neck with Kinect for the next slot at 31%, and the 3DS and 3DS XL earned equal billing with non-iPad tablets at 29%.

Interestingly, the humble DS was the next most wanted at 28%, with the PlayStation 3 at 26% and the Xbox 360 at 26%.

Even the Wii made it in at 20%, with the PSP at 18% and the PlayStation Move and Vita way, way down the bottom at 14%. (That’s still a lot better than the Apple TV, which only 4% want.)

Nielsen conducted a second survey into the tastes of kids aged 13 and up, and on this one, gaming devices fared a little worse, with the Wii U n fourth place at 17%. The Kinect was next at 9%, with PlayStation 3 at 8%; Xbox 360 at 7%; Wii at 6%; 3DS and 3DS XL at 5%; Vita at 4%; and finally the DS family, PlayStation Move and PSP at 3%.

See both charts in full below.

Rumor: Mini Wii Coming Soon

Image
The Wii has served its masters at Nintendo well – the console leads the current hardware generation in sales. Perhaps striving for that last sales push, there's a rumor that a newly designed Wii is coming out soon.

Nintendo World Report says it has obtained info from a major retailer that states the new Wii will come out on December 7, complete with a sensor bar, nunchuk, and Wii Remote with Wii Motion Plus and a jacket. No word on the price of this possible bundle.

If true, this would be the second redesign for the console.

Borderlands 2 Wii U not happening due to lack of ‘OMG’ features
Borderlands 2 developer Gearbox Software isn’t planning on bringing its RPG-shooter to Wii U, as it just couldn’t come up with any killer GamePad features that would warrant a port. Aliens: Colonial Marines on the other hand has plenty. Randy Pitchford has discussed his decision in a new interview.
Image

Speaking with GamesMaster – as reported by NintendoEverything – Pitchford explained, “We get asked if there is going to be a Wii U version of Borderlands, and the reason why there’s not is because we couldn’t think of a natural, obvious, ‘OMG, I want that for what the Wii U brings to the table’ feature.”

However, Pitchford feels that Aliens: Colonial Marines is a better fit due to the game’s chilling motion scanner device, as seen in James Cameron’s iconic movie. It’s a creepy device that should feel right at home on Nintendo’s controller.

“But with Aliens, the first thing we thought was ‘Holy #@*^, I can have a motion controller in my hands!’ When it’s there in my lap it feels like I’m part of the movie.”

It makes sense that Pitchford wouldn’t want to tarnish Borderlands 2 by releasing a shoddy port just for the hell of it, because as the original Wii showed, the torrent of lousy ports with crap motion gimmicks grew old rather fast.

Rumor: 3DS price to drop to $140

Nintendo will officially drop the price of 3DS from $169.99 to $139.99 in “about two weeks,” according to a CAG source.

Target, however, will have the handheld for $129.99 next week, most likely as part of a sale. A NeoGAF source backs this claim.

And for larger screen fans, Nintendo will release a blue 3DS XL bundle with Mario Kart 7 next week for $199.99. The CAG source provided a photo of the package art, which is attached right.

I heard Wii mini is going to cost $99. Kung ang price niya dito sa Pinas is around P4500, I might just buy one para makumpleto ko na yung mga today's-gen consoles.

Wii U is “good, but it’s not great”, says Molyneux
Peter Molyneux seems a little disappointed in what he’s seen of the Wii U so far.

The legendary designer and 22 Cans co-founder told GamesIndustry he likes the Wii U, but isn’t blown away by it.

“I think the Wii U is good, but I don’t feel it’s great,” he said.

“I find holding the device in my hand – looking up at the screen and looking down at the device – slightly confusing as a consumer.”

Molyneux said he’d enjoyed the games he’d played so far but repeated that they were “not great”.

“And we really need these new pieces of hardware to be great in today’s world, because the competition is not just consoles anymore,” he said.

“The competition is everything, all the technology. When you’re holding a Kindle Fire or an iPad in your hand, it’s just amazing technology. It really is. It’s expensive, but it’s amazing technology. And people like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft need to match that. They need to match that in my mind, and exceed it. And I’m not sure the Wii U really did that.”

Molyneux isn’t the first to air doubts regarding the console’s capacity to wow consumers; Gamasutra noted that new devices really need to “sing” straight out of the box. But the 22 Cans creative lead isn’t ready to give up on the Big N just yet – it’s surprised us all before.

“I can remember everybody in the industry laughing and giggling about how stupid the Wii was, what a stupid name it was, and who would want motion control,” he noted.

“And then it went on to sell what, 60, 70 million copies? It got people who never considered computer games to play them.”

Sure, Why Not Connect A PS2 Controller To Your Wii U?

Classic Controller what? You can use a PlayStation 2 controller to play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Datel Japan created a PS2 controller to Wii/Wii U adapter. All you need to do is plug one end to a Wii remote and the other to a PS2 pad.

The adapter also has a Turbo button, possibly useful for Virtual Console shooters.

The PS2 to Wii U/Wii adapter comes out on December 8 for 1,980 yen.
