Hi there pps!

im a relatively new dad, and i have yet to understand the complexities of the relationship between gaming and fatherhood, so to all the "gamer fathers" out there, how can you manage having jobs and a family and playing games? tips would be extremely appreciated!

also, just wondering if there are still doctors who play ps4 games out there? I just graduated medicine and currently doing internship, do we lose time to play?

thank you! :2thumbs:

Yes, you will lose play time. But the rewards of having a family are far greater.
Tip: before you pick up the controller, make sure all your responsibilities from a father, husband and worker perspective are taken care off... Actually, sometimes putting gaming ahead of work couldnt hurt that much and can actually be pretty good for work life balance. Hahaha. Basta wag lang palagi.

When you have to put down the controller of whatever console of your choice as you'll need to spend time with your kids, you will realize it's all worthwhile..

Congrats! :)

I am a father too.

You will experience a great deal of slowness in your gaming career kasi bago ka pa makapaglaro, ensure mo muna kung nagawa at natapos mo na responsibilities mo as husband and father. Naka-abang na ang diapers at pampalit na damit just in case he/she made a mess(pupu, wiwi, laway, suka ng milk, etc)? Kung ikaw ang naka-toka magbantay kay baby and if you want to play then more than half of your attention should be alloted to baby. Be prepared anytime to bring the controller down if fatherhood calls. Also, your sleep pattern will need to adjust to the baby. For the first 6 months, very irregular pa ang sleeping pattern ni baby. Anytime in the middle of the night to the wee hours of the morning ay maaring magising yan.

Most importantly, enjoy being a father. :)

He bought my Red Dead Redemption. Meron daw siya clinic somewhere south, don't remember if somewhere in Laguna or Cavite.

@sn@kemaru thank you sa info sir! Sobrang hirap lang isabay, dati nga pwede ipaintindi sa girlfriend na medyo pasok sa "me" time pag ps time hehehe.

Ngayon sinubukan ko na mag laro, used a weekend to take care of my kid and play a game.

It. Was. Hard.

After waking up, kain/dede then nap time then ligo then kain ulit then naptime, tried to play a game, ended up too tired to play </3

So i guess, I'll have to wait a few more years hahaha!

Anyway, dads out there! any mishaps with your kid? troubleshooting with kid? or some more tips? Share your knowledge gamer-fathers!

Thanks and happy gaming! :)

RANDOM TIP:

- may priorities lang tayo na dapat na unahin pero we are still gamers for life.

yup, you will definitely lose the time to play, but on the bright side, you tend to be more picky on the games now since you only have a very short window of time to play per day

Haha..interesting and pleasantly surprised that this topic showed up when it did since i was just about tomake one that was very similar!

My family just arrived here in the US from the Philippines and now I'm finally with my wife and 2 1/2 year old son. It's been an awesome 2 weeks so far but to no surprise, I haven't been able to touch a controller since they got here for more than 15- 20 mins!

If i miss gaming, yes a part of me does because for almost my 32 years, it has been my companion through thick and thin. But it doesn't really compare to the fun I get while I spend time with my wife or play with my son. I do still find some time to play, but it's mostly Puzzle and Dragons on my iphone..lol.

Anyway, the part about being a doctor also does apply to me. I graduated back 2008 but studying never really got in the way of gaming for me. You just have to find the right balance between studying/career, gaming and keeping up with your relationships. Right now, i'm working as a technologist at Labcorp since medyo mahirap talaga ang matching sa US but keeping a full time job, having a family and having responsibilites will really limit your play time. But so far I miss it less and less...lol sayang yung Witcher at Arkham Knight sine I just got them!

Kinda impressive din if you're a family man and still manage to platinum games.

Father here!

Image

Malaki ang kailangang i-sacrifice pag father kana..

BTW, I have a 6 yrs old son...

Before, weekend ko lang nahihiram baby ko sa Ex ko (don't ask..long story..hehe)

Medyo ok pa ang gaming ko back then since free naman ako after work during weekdays...

Medyo kalakasan pa ng platinum trophy ko that time..(i can get a 2~3 platinum trophy in a month)..

Just sharing...

More on watching tv shows and movies na ako sa TV or using my PS4 to stream movies from my amazon account. Bakit? Dahil pagod na ako, by the time hawakan ko na iyong controller eh gabi na, after a long day of work either gusto mo ng magpahinga or time ng patulugin si baby.

Eto ang routine ng isang magulang.

1. You have to make sure you feed your baby with his/her milk every 2 to 3 hours a day.
2. You need to check and replace baby's diaper every 3 to 4 hours a day. The first 3 months okay pa kasi mas marami time pa siya matulog or mas mahaba iyong nap time kaya hindi masyadong maingay iyan. Pero kahit tulog si baby, you still need to change his diaper and feed him.
3. Give him/her a bath atleast once a week. Usually during weekend mo magagawa eto, kasi bawal pa paliguan ang newly born baby.
4. Change his clothes multiple times. Pag nag-pooh or nag-peeh for sure basa na diaper niya at apektado na damit ni baby. So change ulit ng damit.
And talk to him/her as an ADULT and not baby talk.

So calculate mo iyan mga 1 hour lang ang time mo makapaglaro sa weekdays kung susuwertihin ka. Maybe more hours on Friday dahil puwede ka na magpuyat pag tulog na si baby. Pag weekend depende kung approve si misis, dahil for sure bonding time iyan. Gusto ni misis pumunta kayo sa park mag stroll kasama si baby or go out as a family.

Hindi pa bro, I went here around 2012 and finished up to my step 2 exams pero mahirap ma-match eh. I'm doing a twice a week observership now in Anesthesiology hoping that it would help me match maybe this year or the next kasabay ng wife ko who just arrived here last week (she still has to take the MLEs) but I also work full time 3rd shift as a technologist in a hematology department.

Agree ako diyan. The best iyong handheld gaming kasi puwede mo masingit during commute or break time or nasa rest room hahaha.
