Yesterday we reported that Sony is considering some performance updates to the PS4 via software and new tools, and now we’re discovering that the company is also considering a new PS4 with updated and more powerful hardware.

SCE Executive Vice President Masayasu Ito told Japanese publication 4Gamer that the company is considering several ideals for the future of the PS4, and one of those ideas is a new PS4 console with more powerful hardware.

This would be the first time Sony would take such a route. All previous PlayStation consoles kept the same hardware specs throughout their lifetimes.

While Sony has previously updated chips in their consoles, it was for efficiency reasons — it resulted in cooler and quieter consoles, not more powerful consoles.

But we’re not surprised that Sony is thinking in this direction, as the PS4 and Xbox One are already pushed to the limit, with a lot of games still running below 1080p with 60 frames per second (although the PS4 has a lot more games that support 1080p and 60fps than the less pwoerful Xbox One).

During its PlayStation Meeting in New York, Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announced the mid-generation successor of the PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro

The console will support High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 4K (using special rendering techniques and upscaling). It will be an alternative to the PS4, but it won’t replace it.

It will have more than double GPU power than the original PS4, a CPU with a boosted clock rate. It will let you use your old content, and will come equipped with a 1 TB hard drive.

Even if you don’t have a 4K TV and you can’t use HDR, developers will be free to use the extra power of the new console in different ways. Patches for “half a dozen” first party titles are already in the works, on top of several third party titles

Sony clarified that PlayStation 4 will remain a single, unified community. All PlayStation 4 games will work across PlayStation 4 standard and PlayStation 4 Pro models.

Every PlayStation 4 unit, be it standard or Pro, will be HDR-compatible via a firmware upgrade next week.

Feeling ko papatagalin nila life span ng PS4 thru this. So PS2 v.20? hahaha posible yata yun.
Nakakaloko naman kung lumabas sa market. Baka dumami version ng PS4.

Parang sa smartphone. Asus has like 4 variations of Zenfone 2.
I think Apple has variations of iPhone 5C.
Samsung has... a ton load of phones with different names oversaturating the market :lol;

Sony is working on a PlayStation 4 with the ability to run games at 4K resolution.

This is according to developers who told Kotaku at GDC a PS4 console with increased graphical power, dubbed “PlayStation 4.5″, was currently in the works.

It will purportedly have more processing power to support 4K and to better enhance the PlayStation VR game experience – all thanks to an upgraded GPU.

Various verified development sources spoke to more than one writer at Kotaku regarding “PS4.5″ and while some of the details were “vague”, once source said the console felt “exploratory” and may not arrive this year.

It was also rumored that Sony met with developers at GDC this week to discuss the console, and some developers where even overheard talking about PS4.5 on the show floor to one another.

kasalanan ito ng nintendo. mag-introduce ng powerful version ng same system sa parehong generation.

walang problema sa ganito, maliban sa mga exclusive games na sa powerful version lang meron. haay

Hoping it's a simple modular upgrade rather than a full console upgrade. :/ hassle naman if shortened agad product lifespan ng PS4.
